Post Christmas Season 2017/2018 - More Decorating

Some of the following was set out on the 10th day of Christmas or after. Most of it has already been put away. I did a much better job of displaying my plates this year as I finally picked up some decent plate stands.  I could only find the smaller dala horses this year and not the two bigger ones. If it's getting to the point where I've got so much stuff that I can't find all of it then I think I may have a problem. Haha.

Christmas Season 2017/2018 - Half Off

Saturday, December 30, 2017
Much to Dale's consternation I did a little mor post Christmas shopping. The green Santa cloche above and the red ornaments below were ALL half off. How could I say no?

Christmas Season 2015/2016 - Odds and Ends: Nutcrackers

The nutcrackers were up this year as they are every year.

Here's some information on Nutcrackers from Wikipedia:

"Nutcrackers in the form of wooden carvings of a soldier, knight, king, or other profession have existed since at least the 15th century. These nutcrackers portray a person with a large mouth which the operator opens by lifting a lever in the back of the figurine. Originally one could insert a nut in the big-toothed mouth, press down and thereby crack the nut. Modern nutcrackers in this style serve mostly for decoration, mainly at Christmas time."

"The carving of nutcrackers - as well as of religious figures and of cribs - developed as a cottage industry in forested rural areas of Germany. Wood-carving usually provided the only income for the people living there. Today the travel industry supplements their income by bringing visitors to the remote areas."

Holiday Season 2015 - Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Monday, December 21, 2015

Started putting some decorations on the tree this morning. Listened to Perry Como while trimming. One song was Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. I'm also a fan of the Frank Sinatra and Cindi Lauper version as well as the one by the Pointer Sisters both from the Very Special Christmas albums.

Cloudy and gloomy day. Missing Dale. He should be home from Colorado around 4 p.m. today.

Holiday Season 2015 - Lights Are On

Started winter break a couple days ago and I must say I'm relaxing quite well. Dale is off to Colorado for a few days to visit John who is being pumped full of antibiotics to help fight off a nasty infection. I'm lying on the couch looking at the red and white lights and wishing Dale were back.

So far this has been a particularly tough school year and I'm fighting off some lethargy that I feel is due to being so overwhelmed at work. Despite that I'm wishing I had a bit more energy to deck the house for Christmas which was something I was really looking forward to. Listening to Miss Patti is helping to cheer me up.

Holiday Season 2015 - Reindeer

Got the reindeer up the other day. There are a couple of smaller ones I can't find. They're packed up somewhere in the basement. I've got so many Christmas tchotchkes I can't keep track of them all! Maybe a sign it's time to thin some things out?

Holiday Season 2015 - Wreath

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Put up a wreath today. This one's been sitting in the basement in its original package for a few years.

Didn't by ANYTHING on Black Friday. Got the snowmen up though.
