The 10th Day of Christmas - Ten Lords A-Leaping

Exhausted upon my return from work so I built a fire.

What you'd see on our porch.

Holiday Season 2023 - 4 Days to Go

 Thursday, December 21, 2023

Countdown to Christmas - 4 Days

Today is the Winter Solstice.

I set the angels out today.

Mom and I went to the American Swedish Institute to see the holiday displays.

We checked out the display of Himmeli. Shown above are a couple examples. Himmeli predate the Christmas tree and they were traditionally suspended in a dining or living space during the Winter Solstice. They remained in place until the summer months to help ensure a good harvest.

Mom got to sit in the Snow Queen chair.

Mom got some ornaments in the gift shop. I got this kick ass PINK dala horse. Who knew they came in pink?

Dale and I went to Creekside Supper Club for dinner. It was delicious. Dale had the chicken breast and I had the fish fry with walleye. I had a Grasshhopper for dessert.

Lots Going On Today

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

It's 2-2-22. There's a lot going on today. Candlemas...

Feast of the Presentation...

Groundhog Day. Word is there's 6 more weeks of winter.

Laid back evening. Salmon open face  and leftover gingerbread cake.

Imbolc 2022/St. Brigid's Day

Monday, February 1, 2021

Happy St. Brigid's Day. Also, Happy Imbolc, the Celtic first day of spring. I read today about a legend that St. Brigid turned bathwater into beer.

Quiet evening at home. For dinner Dale and I had chicken and ravioli, one of my favorites, and we watched an episode of the old Carol Burnett Show.

Sylvester, the Christmas Cat, continues to get more comfortable in his new home. He also seems to get more adorable as well. This photo captures some of the bluish afternoon winter light although this shot makes it look more blue than it actually is.

Chilly January Afternoon and Evening - Gingerbread and Music

Sunday, January 30, 2022

Didn't make gingerbread this past holiday season until this afternoon.

Used a Betty Crocker mix and it turned out great.

Listened to some wintery music while it was in the oven.

For dessert it was simply heaven with whipped cream.

MLK Weekend - Christmistletoe

Sunday, January 16, 2022

Put out the Dala horses...

Lit some candles...

More candles...

And more candles.

We drank fizzy water for cocktail hour due to our dry-January.

Listened to some Christmas music that I didn't get to this past season.

Dale and I made a chicken pot pie and Dale stir fried some vegetables.

For dessert I had pumpkin cheesecake from Lunds and Dale had a Dove bar.

During dinner we watched a few episodes of the old Carol Burnett Show. Guests included Jonathan Winters, Lucille Ball, Imogene Coca, Phyllis Diller, Bobbie Gentry,  Diahann Carroll, and the Smothers Brothers; very nostalgic.

Post Christmas Season 2017/2018 - More Decorating

Some of the following was set out on the 10th day of Christmas or after. Most of it has already been put away. I did a much better job of displaying my plates this year as I finally picked up some decent plate stands.  I could only find the smaller dala horses this year and not the two bigger ones. If it's getting to the point where I've got so much stuff that I can't find all of it then I think I may have a problem. Haha.
