Christmastide 2021/2022 - Summary

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

It's been quite a year. Overall 2021 was a little better than 2020 but there were still quite a few challenges. The January 6th insurrection a little over a year ago. A return to in person learning in February 2021 after most of 2020 in distance learning due to the pandemic for most of 2020. Climate records. Crazy politics. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is falling apart. However, there's always hope. Christmas is proof of that.

Lots Going On Today

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

It's 2-2-22. There's a lot going on today. Candlemas...

Feast of the Presentation...

Groundhog Day. Word is there's 6 more weeks of winter.

Laid back evening. Salmon open face  and leftover gingerbread cake.

Imbolc 2022/St. Brigid's Day

Monday, February 1, 2021

Happy St. Brigid's Day. Also, Happy Imbolc, the Celtic first day of spring. I read today about a legend that St. Brigid turned bathwater into beer.

Quiet evening at home. For dinner Dale and I had chicken and ravioli, one of my favorites, and we watched an episode of the old Carol Burnett Show.

Sylvester, the Christmas Cat, continues to get more comfortable in his new home. He also seems to get more adorable as well. This photo captures some of the bluish afternoon winter light although this shot makes it look more blue than it actually is.

Chilly January Afternoon and Evening - Gingerbread and Music

Sunday, January 30, 2022

Didn't make gingerbread this past holiday season until this afternoon.

Used a Betty Crocker mix and it turned out great.

Listened to some wintery music while it was in the oven.

For dessert it was simply heaven with whipped cream.

MLK Weekend - Old Twelfth Night

Monday, January 17, 2022

Laid back afternoon once home from the rally.

Had an apple as a nod to Old Twelfth Night.

Listened to Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

Simple dinner of burritos.

And we watched episodes of the old Lucy Show on Amazon Prime. What a blast from the past since I haven't seen it since I was a kid.

MLK Weekend - Rally

Monday, January 17, 2022

Attended an MLK Day rally in support of living wages and affordable health care for paraprofessionals in the district I work.

Despite the chill it was very energizing.

And everyone who spoke did very well. Lots of references were made to the voting rights issues going on lately.

MLK Weekend - Ghost Stories

Monday, January 17, 2022

Finished Mr. Jones by Edith Wharton recently. Quite well done and sufficiently spooky. The teaser on the back of the book reads: "When Lady Jane Lynke unexpectedly inherits Bells, a beautiful country estate, she declares she'll never leave the peaceful grounds and starts to make the house her home. But she hasn't reckoned on the obstinate Mr. Jones, who haas instructed the caretakers to deny all entry - yet is nowhere to be found."

Today I read, and finished, An Eddy On the Floor by Bernard Capes. This one was exceptional and got into my head. For this the teaser reads: "A man receives an unexpected appointment as doctor at the local prison. But when a terrified inmate begs to be moved, the young doctor begins to question his good fortune: The cell adjacent the frightened man has been boarded up for years - and no one will let the doctor inside."

I always enjoy Seth's illustrations.
