Christmas Season 2024/2025: Christmas Day - Cocktails, Appetizers, and Prime Rib (1st Day of Christmas)

 Wednesday, December 25,  2024

After my cigar I hopped in the pool. Dale and I were supposed to have potato peeling duty at 2:00.  Dale saw how much fun I was having outside and offered to take the job over. He's just that sweet. John came out and joined me in the pool where the water was heated to a perfect 90 degrees.

When finished in the pool I picked a tangelo from John and Dianne's backyard tree.

I made a cocktail using Bombay Sapphire, tangelo slices and juice, and lime juice ice cubes. The ice cubes were from John's neighbors who used fresh squeezed lime juice from their backyard lime tree.

After peeling the potatoes Dale boiled and them riced them.

John made a lovely baked brie as an appetizer which  turned out splendidly.

Prime rib was on  the menu for dinner.

John used an air fryer to cook it.

Later when ready....

Irv looks on as John fished it out.

Dayum it turned out nicely.

Really nicely.

Dale and John worked on a nice juice to put on the meat.

My God it was beautiful! Mashed potatoes and green beans accompanied it. Old Fashioned as my dinner cocktail.

Christmas Season 2022/2023 - The 1st Day of Christmas: Merry Christmas!

Sunday, December 25, 2022

Woke up this morning at 7:00 which is the latest I've slept in a long time. It was a lovely quiet Christmas morning. We transferred the stroganoff to the crock pot at 7:30 so it would be ready this afternoon around 4:00/4:30.

Noel was going to join us for dinner today but she messaged me to let me know that she's having a hard time dealing with the death of her brother Patrick a couple months ago and that she felt it was best to stay home. Of course I understood.

Mom and Warren came over around 3:30. Warren brought a nice cheese tray which we had with cocktails. He also brought over a delicious cheese and broccoli soup which we had as a first course before the beef stroganoff. Pumpkin pie for dessert. Mom gave me the sweet holy family figurine which is pictured above. I love it however I've had to hide it since Sylvester keeps trying to bite Joseph's head off!

Christmastide 2021/2022 - 5th Day of Christmas: Creekside Supper Club

Wednesday, December 29, 2021

This afternoon Dale and I decided to try Creekside Supper Club which in the old Pepitos space. As it turns out this was their opening night.

They started us out with a little baby relish tray. It had celery and also some pickled carrots and beets. The beets were particularly good. We went ahead and ordered the regular relish tray and it was fantastic: pickled asparagus and carrots, wild game sausage, cheese curds, and walleye spread. It was simply fantastic and probably. could've passed for a meal by itself. I had a cup of the corn chowder and it was perfect. Dale had a salad.

For dinner I ordered the sirloin. I got it with a side of hash browns and it came with a huge piece of Texas toast. Dale got the salmon with a side of rice pilaf and he said it was divine.

Oh, and I didn't mention that I ordered a Wisconsin-style Old Fashioned. It was so well made I had another.

Now, the decor threw me off because I couldn't be completely sure they weren't going for irony. It was that spot on.

For dessert I had a Brandy Alexander. It was so good it was like I got an old school malted milk from Bridgeman's only with Brandy.

By the way, the staff was very friendly. All in all it was a great time and I can't wait to go back.
