Christmas Season 2022/2023 - 3rd Day of Christmas: More Holiday Entertaining

Tuesday, December 27, 2022

Spent much of the day in a fatigued state. I took two substantial naps and felt better by the afternoon. We had our neighbors Breanna and Josh along with their kids Bran and Ada over for dinner tonight. We had a very nice time.

Holiday Season 2022 - Decorating the Tree

Friday, December 23, 2022

Sylvester watches while I decorate the tree.

Holiday Season 2022 - Cigar Time

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

The bomb cyclone hovering over the nation and the blizzard and cold conditions with it are causing quite a headache for folks, to put it mildly. Travel has been disrupted and people are dealing with being out of power and heat in many places across the country.

Lit up a small cigar which only took about 20 minutes to smoke. Being really bundled up and a lack of wind made it tolerable.

Holiday Season 2022 - The Christmas Cat

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

I've been on vacation this week and Sylvester doesn't seem to be thrown off by it one bit. I've used some of my extra time to work on some ancestry stuff which has caused the end-table I sit by to become quite cluttered with resources and other materials I use in my research. Oddly enough Sylvester has decided lately to make this his perching space of choice despite how crowded and messy it is. He's just too cute. I consider him my Christmas Cat because he came to us last December in the middle of the month. He's one of the best Christmas gifts I've ever gotten.

Holiday Season 2022 - Whamageddon: Whammed On the Solstice

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Heard this song today for the first time this season. Whammed on the Solstice!

Holiday Season 2022 - Christmas Cards and Setting Up the Tree

Tuesday, December 20, 2022

Walked some Christmas card up to the mailbox this morning. Only received 4 this year and sent out that many myself. It just continues to be not as big a deal anymore.

Also, got the tree up...

...and the lights on. Decorations can wait.

Fourth Sunday of Advent today.

Trees still beautifully flocked from the recent storm.

Brunch at Lowbrow afterward.

Holiday Season 2022 - Let Winter Break Begin!

Friday, December 16, 2022

Began winter break with a celebratory cigar in the garage.

Before I lit up our neighbor Breanna and her son Bran brought over some pullah bread which was very thoughtful. Breanna told me Bran was really excited to bring it by. Breanna told me it's a cardamom bread. A little more research on my part uncovered that it comes from Finland.

Holiday Season 2022 - Last Day of School Before Winter Break

Friday, December 16, 2022

View from my classroom the morning of the last day of school before winter break. The trees were beautifully flocked.

We had been planning for a while to take the kids sledding today. We got a lot of snow over the last 24 hours so it worked out perfectly.

The park we walked to has a massive hill. You could tell right away which kids had experience sledding (don't aim your sled toward a tree).

We got back to school just in time for lunch, recess, a movie and hot chocolate, and then dismissal! See y'all next year...

Holiday Season 2022 - Holiday Concert: The Hot Sardines

Monday December 12, 2022

Noel and I went to go see The Hot Sardines for a holiday show at the Dakota. Lead singer Elizabeth Bougerol is a woman after my own heart. . .

She sipped a martini through most of their set.

Most, although not all, of the numbers in the set were holiday themed. Mistletoe and Holly was one of the songs they performed. Noel and I were both surprised to learn that Frank Sinatra was a co-writer of the lyrics.

Our seats were fantastic. We were up against the stage and right next to the trombone player. You can see how close by the picture I got of his feet.

And the base of his mic stand. He was a nice guy who bantered with us on a couple of occasions during the performance. As the show was ending he told us what great audience members we were.

The performance was at the Dakota in downtown Minneapolis which looked magical on a somewhat mild and pleasant winter December night.

Holiday Season 2022 - 3rd Sunday of Advent

Sunday, December 11, 2022

Church today on this 3rd Sunday of Advent. Dale and I started attending Sts. Luke and James recently. We attended the 1st and 2nd Sundays as well.

Holiday Season 2022 - Lunch and Shopping with Noel

Saturday, December 10, 2022

Lunch with Noel.

We ate at Frost's and both had French toast.

Did a little shopping. I picked up some cigars at Stogies On Grand.

We stopped at the former Bibelot which is now called Good Things. Noel pointed out these Santa and snowman cocktail tumblers. There were four different ones but they were sold individually and not as a set. Noel felt they were right up my alley and she was not wrong. I was going to just get one but she insisted I should have at least two to make something of a set. I gave in, picked another one and got in the queue to check out. Noel continued to look around but eventually joined me in line. I thought "what-the-hell" and told her to go grab me the other two.

Found this snowman at Good Things as well. It fits all my criteria for a snowman tchotchke. It looks 1940s retro or thereabouts, the arms are snow and not sticks, button nose and not carrot (although I'm sometimes will to budge on this one), top hats are recommended.

Dale good naturedly needled me how much I spent after I got home and showed him what I bought. I (jokingly) threw Noel under the bus and (jokingly) told Dale she forced me to buy more than what I wanted and that it was all her fault.

I had an Ashton cigar out in the garage before dinner.

Holiday Season 2022 - Living Christmas Tree

Thursday, December 8, 2022

Still taking good care of the living Christmas tree I got from Kelly at Rare Bird. Sylvester has been leaving it alone.
